Suspected gunmen have launched another attack on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Plateau State, but security operatives repelled the assault, killing one of the attackers during a gun battle.
The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau State, has confirmed another attempted attack by suspected gunmen on its premises, barely weeks after a previous security breach around the institution. Security personnel successfully repelled the latest assault, with one suspected assailant killed during an exchange of gunfire.
According to NIPSS, the attack occurred at about 11 p.m. on Wednesday when the gunmen attempted to breach the institute’s outer security perimeter.
Security operatives engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, killing one of the suspected assailants, while several others fled the scene with suspected gunshot wounds.
The institute confirmed that the attackers failed to gain access to the facility and that all participants of the Senior Executive Course, staff members, residents and critical infrastructure within the institution remained safe.
The latest incident comes just weeks after suspected gunmen attacked the NIPSS community in an earlier assault that prompted heightened security around Nigeria’s foremost policy and leadership training institution.
Following that incident, security agencies reinforced surveillance and patrols within and around the institute to prevent further attacks. The renewed assault has once again raised concerns over security in Plateau State and the safety of strategic national institutions.
In a statement, NIPSS reassured participants, staff, their families and members of the public that the security of lives and property remains its highest priority.
The institute also commended the swift response and professionalism of security agencies, disclosing that efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects. Surveillance and other proactive security measures have been further strengthened within and around the institution, while members of the public were urged to disregard misinformation capable of causing unnecessary panic.
Although the latest attack was successfully repelled without any reported casualties among NIPSS personnel or course participants, the repeated assaults underscore the persistent security challenges facing parts of Plateau State. Authorities say investigations and manhunt operations are ongoing to arrest the fleeing attackers and prevent future incidents.
