A serving Nigerian Army officer, Colonel Abdussalam Ude, has been shot dead after gunmen attacked his residence in the Kurudu area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, in what security sources believe was an attempted abduction.
Gunmen on Monday evening killed a serving Nigerian Army intelligence officer, Colonel Abdussalam Ude, during an attack at his residence in Kurudu, Abuja.
According to security sources, the assailants stormed the officer’s home shortly after he returned from work. The attackers reportedly attempted to abduct him or members of his family, but the situation turned deadly after the officer resisted.
Wife, Driver and Security Guard Injured
During the attack, the gunmen opened fire, killing Colonel Ude on the spot.
His wife, driver and security guard sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to hospital, where they are receiving treatment. Authorities have not disclosed the severity of their injuries.
Investigation Underway
Security agencies have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the motive for the attack and identify those responsible.
While early reports suggest it may have been an attempted kidnapping, officials have yet to issue a definitive statement on the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Officer Served in Military Intelligence
Colonel Ude was an officer in the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps and was described by security sources as a respected intelligence operative who had served in several strategic counter-terrorism and intelligence assignments.
His death has renewed concerns over the growing insecurity in the Federal Capital Territory and attacks targeting both civilians and security personnel.
