Three Nigerian policemen are said to have been slain in Anambra State by gunmen who also took their firearms.
The Thursday incident took place at a police checkpoint in the state’s Orumba South Local Government Area in Umunze.
According to police sources who spoke to SaharaReporters, the cops in question were mobile police officers assigned to the 29 PMF and 54 PMF Umunze.
DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, the police public relations officer for the Anambra State Police Command, responded to the incident by describing it as sad and noted that there were already reinforcement teams in the area.
“It is an unfortunate incident and is part of the highest price security officers pay in serving the nation but the police command is not deterred by this development.
“The reinforcements teams are already in the area and the manhunt for the assailants is ongoing while joint security patrols have been intensified in the area,” DSP Tochukwu said in a short statement.
