Gunmen Invade Rivers Community, Kill Two in Midnight Attack

At least two residents have been killed after heavily armed gunmen invaded Rumuodogo 2 Community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State during a late-night raid. The attackers reportedly stormed homes in a commando-style operation, leaving residents fleeing for safety as police launched an investigation into the incident.

Panic swept through Rumuodogo 2 Community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State after unidentified gunmen carried out a deadly overnight attack that claimed the lives of two residents.

The assailants reportedly invaded the community in the early hours of Monday, moving from house to house in search of specific individuals before opening fire. The motive for the attack had not been established as of the time this report was filed.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers struck at about 1:00 a.m., forcing their way into homes and dragging some occupants outside.

A resident identified simply as Monica alleged that the gunmen broke into her home, assaulted her husband and shot him in the stomach and leg. He reportedly survived the attack and was rushed to hospital, while two other residents were confirmed dead.

She further claimed the attackers accused members of the community of being responsible for the killing of persons whose bodies were recently recovered from a nearby river. Those claims have not been independently verified by authorities.

The attack triggered widespread panic, with many residents fleeing into nearby bushes to escape the gunfire.

Community members have called on security agencies to increase patrols and ensure those responsible are identified and prosecuted, amid renewed concerns over violent attacks in parts of Rivers State.

The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the incident.

Police spokesperson Blessing Agabe said two people were killed and that investigations had commenced to determine the motive behind the attack and apprehend those responsible.

No arrests had been announced as of the time of filing this report.

The latest attack adds to growing security concerns in parts of Rivers State, where communities have continued to experience sporadic incidents of violence. Residents are urging authorities to strengthen security presence and prevent further attacks while investigations continue.
