Suspected Herdsmen Kill Four in Fresh Attack on Benue Community

Violence returns to rural Benue as residents flee and authorities launch investigation into latest killings

At least four people have been killed in a fresh attack allegedly carried out by suspected armed herders in a rural community in Benue State, North Central Nigeria.

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday in a farming settlement, where armed attackers stormed the area and opened fire on residents, forcing many to flee into nearby bushes for safety.

Local sources said the victims were mostly farmers who were caught off guard during the assault, while several others are still unaccounted for following the attack.

Security operatives have since been deployed to the affected community to restore order and assess the situation, although details remain limited as of the time of filing this report. Authorities have yet to confirm the exact number of casualties or make arrests.

The attack adds to the long-running wave of violence in parts of Benue State, where clashes involving suspected herders and farming communities have repeatedly resulted in deaths, displacement, and destruction of farmlands.

Residents have continued to call for stronger security presence and more decisive action from authorities to prevent recurring attacks in vulnerable rural areas.

Investigations are ongoing, while displaced residents await assurances of safety as tensions remain high in the affected community.
